Hey! As you can see, JNET's website has been pretty quiet lately. But! With the start of a new semester comes a start of a new revamped website! Hopefully, this will be updated more frequently for you guys :)

It's been several months since, well... lots of things have happened - if you were watching this space, I'm terribly sorry.

The best way to get notified of upcoming events is via the mailing list. E-mail dgchang2-AT-uiuc.edu and she'll set you up.
Otherwise, you can join the J-net Group on facebook - all event notifications will be sent out that way too.

Fashion Show news:
Meetings are every wednesday, starting at 7, at Lincoln Hall 110.

Also, we'll be selling Goza thursday and maybe friday, on the Quad, in front of the Union. And join us Friday night for a scary movie at Daniels Hall. We'll be watching "Chakushin ari (One Missed Call)".

As a reminder, the barcrawl is coming up (Tuesday! The 3rd of April, 2007): We'll be meeting at Geovanti's, 9 PM, and migrating from there.

Also, a new (and final) J-net event has been decided: There will be an end of the year BBQ on Sunday, May 6th, right before exams (come, eat, relax a bit and say goodbye to our graduating officers).

Flea market!*

If, by chance, you don't get the J-net e-mails...

Ahoy hoy,

In addition to all our other exciting activities J-net will be having a flea market* at Culture Night, February 10! This is your opportunity to get rid of all that unwanted, Japanese clutter.

If you'd like to sell your things at the flea market, we ask that you give a 20% donation of what you make from selling your item(s), and also that whatever you're selling is related to Japan [at least somehow!], be they CDs, DVDs, manga, posters, clothing, etc. If you're interested in buying anything, we'll send out a list of the things people are selling before the day of Culture Night so you know what to look for!

So if you're interested in selling at the flea market, contact Denise at dgchang2 - AT - uiuc.edu~~, or reply to this, with a list of your name, your item(s), and how you want each item to be priced.~~[Do not reply here. No one will hear you.] Please send it by February 9.

As for the actual item(s), you can either arrange to get them to one of the officers (like her or me) before Culture Night, stop by our prep session in ISR open lounge this Saturday from 1 to 4, or come early to Culture Night with them. Feel free to contact one of us if you have any questions!

Here's what we have for you guys:
-General meeting Wed., 1/24, 7:00 PM: Room TBA

-Culture Night 2/3 (tentative): $2-3 dollars, with prizes for games

-The annual Ski Trip! 2/17 or 2/24: Possibly with TIA and KASA... so if you know friends who are in TIA or KASA, tell them to bug their social chair.

-Our first Host Club! 4/20 or 4/27: Come to the general meeting to learn more.

-Barcrawl sometime in March. Keep an eye out for e-mails.

Sukiyaki lesson/dinner

J-net's having our sukiyaki lesson/dinner Nov. 3, 6 PM, at AACC (Asian American Community Center)

However, due to limited space, we'll be having a first-come-first-serve ticket sale at the Illini Union Vending Machine Room (room 0104). The sale will run Thursday (tomorrow!) and Friday, from 11-3.

BBQ update

From the e-mail...
It was great to see you all at the general meeting! If you couldn't make it, don't worry though. If you missed it and you'd like any information about the year's events, just ask me or one of the other officers. As mentioned before, we've got the welcoming BBQ coming up soon, and it's this week! Details:

Friday, Sept. 8 5 to 7:30pm
Illini Grove, just north of PAR

At the BBQ we'll be having standard foods like hotdogs and burgers, but we'll also be cooking up some yakisoba. Yakisoba is a delicious Japanese fried noodle dish, and if you've never had it before I suggest giving it a try. Naturally, it's all-you-can-eat. We're not just going to be eating of course. We have some fun games planned to help everyone get to know each other and...to just have fun!

If it rains, we'll be moving the party indoors, but don't let that discourage you from showing up! If you'd like to attend, please email me by Thursday night that you plan to come. If you're bringing friends, tell me how many are coming, so that we know how much food to get. The cost is $5 to cover the food, beverages, and snacks. Hope to see you there.
